BRICS to create university network, according to forum in Russia

MOSCOW, Oct. 28 (MNA) –The BRICS member countries will create a network of universities to promote the joint execution of high education programs, masterships and doctorates, according to one of the agreements of an academic forum in session here.

Russian deputy Minister of Education, Alexander Klimov explained that the university network is up to now a project of big dimensions and perspectives that will allow collaboration in the bilateral and multilateral formats, in updating and qualification of professional programs.

The idea emerged two years ago during the meeting of Ministers of Education of the BRICS Group  (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), but gathered speed with the Russian presidency in this period, when figuring among priorities in its agenda, until the first quarter of 2016.

Another of the initiatives presented in the first Global University Summit of BRICS, being held in Moscow until tomorrow, has to do with the creation of an association of high education centers of scientific research formed by the five countries of the Group.

According to the rector of the Moscow State University M. Lomonosov, Víktor Sadovnichi, the organization is based on the principles of respect and spirit of association.

The initiative supposes the creation of academic secretariats in each of the member States and a council of co-presidents, as the rector structure, which will head a representative of the country occupying the rotatory presidency of the BRICS group.

I am convinced that the proposals of the Global University Summit will mean a substantial support to the effort of our countries for a strategic long-term cooperation, emphasized Sadovnichi.

Other Russian institutions, simultaneous venues of the Forum, supported the project to create an innovative system of qualification of the universities on new principles.

The BRICS quintet groups 42 percent of world population, almost 15 percent of global GDP and over one fourth of the planets territory.
